Louisa Byron

Louisa Byron is a multi-genre violinist/violist and composer for multimedia. She is currently studying Film Scoring and Violin Performance with minors in Conducting and Video Game Scoring at Berklee College of Music.

As a composer, Louisa enjoys writing for orchestra, string quartets, quintets, and piano trios. In 2015, Louisa was MPR Minnesota Varsity’s composition winner. She wrote for the Copper Street Brass Quintet for the Schubert Club Composition Mentorship, and for the Young Artists Summer Program Curtis Institute of Music piano quartet. As an entering student at Berklee College of Music, Louisa was awarded the 2016 Berklee Writing and Composition Scholarship. She placed first with her string quartet, ‘Lost” in the 2016 Class 4 division of the Minnesota Federation of Music Clubs Junior Composers competition. She later moved on and won 1st place at the National level.

Louisa is well versed in classical, folk, R&B, rock, and jazz. She was selected as concertmaster in 2017 for Berklee World Strings, directed by Grammy Award-Winning cellist and composer, Eugene Friesen. She led the ensemble in concert with Eugene Friesen’s ensemble, Trio Globo. During the fall of 2019, Louisa was elected President of the Women’s Film Initiative (WFI), an organization formed at Berklee College of Music to highlight successful women filmmakers and composers.

Performing in and writing for the Berklee Instant Strings, Louisa headlined with artists in the Newport Folk Festival and the FreshGrass Music Festival. She performed with artists such as Kermit the Frog, Brandi Carlile, and Paquito D’Rivera. In 2019, Louisa’s string quartet was awarded first place in the American String Teacher’s Association competition. In 2019 Louisa was awarded the Video Game Audio Endowed Scholarship for Women, the Performance Division String award, and recently, Louisa was presented with the 2020 Barnes & Noble Award by the Berklee Film Scoring Department.
