Hannah Rice is an emerging composer who grew up in a musical family in the New Orleans area. Both of her parents are opera singers who encouraged her to study piano at an early age. She composed her first choral piece at age 13 and was inspired to begin writing for film after composing incidental music for theatre productions. This past summer, Hannah attended the NYU Film Scoring Workshop. Hannah graduated from high school in 2018 and is currently pursuing a dual degree in composition (Mara Gibson) and vocal performance (Lori Bade) at Louisiana State University. She enjoys exploring extremes in her music through range, timbre, and contemporary techniques to best portray the story behind her music. She also enjoys incorporating her own voice in her sound tracks. In addition to film music, Hannah enjoys composing concert music. Recently, Transient Canvas premiered her piece, “Zig” for marimba and bass clarinet at the Charlotte New Music Festival, and in 2019, she won Megan Ihnen and Darrel Hale’s Call for Scores Competition with her piece, entitled “Aurora” for mezzo-soprano and bassoon. Her choral piece, “Clara: To Fly A Plane” will be published by Hal Leonard next year.
